HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Emcee’ing, graf, breaking, DJ’ing – the four cornerstones of hip hop culture. From the earliest days of the genre’s existence these four elements have stood as the most important icons in the evolution of hip hop culture.
Over time the ancient elemental arts of hip hop were lost, the secrets of the old masters began to dissapear into the shifting sands of time. As the time honoured lore of the hip hop grandmasters was slowly swallowed by the gaping maw of the glitterati and commercial profitability, a new breed of of hip hop was born - rap.
No longer about the arts of the old skool masters, the new hip hop cared nothing for its origins, its cultural roots. Instead the once pure mind state of the hip hop masters was replaced by a new mentailty, one founded in bling, booty, cash and slick marketing campaigns. The DJ became an afterthought, k mart began using graf to sell its latest line of deodorant and P Diddy became the richest man in hip hop.
After epoch’s spent dwelling in the lowest realms of the underground a new breed re-emerged from the cracked and crumbling remnants of hip hop’s cultural heart to re-light the fires in the temples of the grand masters. After many years spent deep in hybernation the elementalists gradually awoke, gathering their forces again to prepare for an all out assault on the cash-drunk media barons and corporate kings, who held the hip hop world in thrall thru their never-ending ad campaigns, merchandise lines, television shows and marketing schemes.
Reformed anew, the heart and soul of hip hop reclaims the stage on The Elements Tour, planting the true skool hip hop flag and profiling planet earth’s greatest hip hop luminaries alongside Australia’s own elemental masters.
The Elements Tour is a live representation of the defining aspects of global hip hop culture. The sound and substance of hip hop is defined by the constant evolution of each of the 5 'elements' that drive its progression. The Elements Tour profiles local and international grand-masters of the elements of hip hop, as well as providing a gateway for a next generation of Australian hip hop emcees, DJs, breakers and beatboxers to represent on the world stage.
Witness the international overground and the local underground converging to create a truly unique hip hop spectacle, blurring cultural definitions and burning musical boundaries.
