State Qualifiers – Emcee Battle Outline
EMCEE BATTLE
• Qualifiers in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane
• Qualifiers to ascertain the top 4 emcees in each state.
• Top 4 emcees will battle at State finals - The Elements Tour
QUALIFIYING FORMAT
• Qualifiers - 45 Second freestyle, to ascertain top 16
• 1st Round – 8 Battles (2 rounds each of 45 seconds)
• 2nd Round – Quarter finals 4 Battles (2 rounds each of 45 seconds)
STATE FINALS - THE ELEMENTS TOUR
• 3rd Round – Semi Finals 2 Battles (2 rounds each of 60 seconds)
• 4th Round – Finals 1 battle (2 rounds of 60 seconds)
EMCEE BATTLE RUNNING FORMAT AND RULES
• Battle must be held with either 16 or 8 Emcees, no limit to the number of entrants attempting to qualify
• All Emcees names should be drawn from a hat to decide the order of competition.
vThe promoter will appoint the timekeeper. He/She will be provided with a stopwatch and will be responsible for indicating the end of each round. The clock starts from the beginning of the first line spoken by the competitor.
• For the first round of competition through to the quarter finals each Emcee rhymes twice per round.
v The length of every verse in the competition is 45 seconds.
• Each Emcee must rhyme over the same beat as their opponent. ie. Each Emcee rhymes once, over the same beat, then the beat is changed.
• Only the event staff, judges, host, time keeper, DJ and the two performers of the current round are permitted on stage during each round.
• The judging panel must include three judges in total.
• All three judges must be approved by Audio Trade prior to the announcement of the judging panel. (Judging panel selections must be emailed to Audio Trade a minimum of two weeks prior to the event date).
• Judges must make their decision as to the winner of each round independently. Each judge must write his/her choice for the winner of each round onto a piece of paper.
• There should be no discussion between the judges during the rounds. The winner of each round will not be announced until the next round.
• In the case of a round where the judges cannot reach a decision each Emcee will be asked to perform an extra verse. Wherever possible this process should be avoided by the judges.
• State finals (held at the Elements tour dates) will be judged by MC Supernatural
HOST
A host must be appointed in each state that will be responsible for:
• The coin flip (to determine which emcee chooses to go first or respond)
• Counting and announcing the rounds of each battle
• General hosting duties including reading out the following prior to the commencement of each battle.
COMPETITION RULES
1. No touching of your opponent allowed. Any Emcee who touches another opponent will be disqualified.
2. No speaking on the microphone allowed at all when the opponent is rhyming. Any Emcee who talks over their opponent’s verse will be disqualified. (While an Emcee is rhyming the opponent’s microphone should be muted)
3. The judge’s decision is final. No discussion into the judges’ decisions will be entered into.

DJ BATTLE
• Qualifiers in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane
• State Qualifiers to ascertain the top 2 DJ’s in each state.
• Top 2 DJ’s will battle at State finals - The Elements Tour
QUALIFYING FORMAT
• Qualifiers - 3 Minutes trick set, to ascertain top 8
• 1st Round – 4 Battles (1 round each of 3 Minutes)
• 2nd Round – Semi Finals 4 Battles (2 rounds each of 3 minutes)
STATE FINALS - THE ELEMENTS TOUR
• 3rd Round – Finals, 2 Battles (2 rounds each of 4 Minutes)
DJ BATTLE RUNNING FORMAT AND RULES
• Battle must be held with either 8 or 4 DJ’s.
• All DJ’s names should be drawn from a hat to decide the order of competition.
• The promoter will appoint the timekeeper. He/She will be provided with a stopwatch and will be responsible for indicating the end of each round. The clock starts from the beginning of the first line by the competitor.
• For the first round of competition each DJ will battle once, then through to the finals each DJ will battle twice
• The length of every battle in the qualifiers is 3 minutes.

2. All DJ’s must use the same mixer and turntables, however a competitors own stylus may be used.
3. The judge’s decision is final. No discussion into the judges’ decisions will be entered into.
State Qualifiers process
All emcees and DJ’s must register prior to the event via The Elements Tour presents Scribble Jam Website (www.elements-tour.com). Emcee and DJ entrants will be charged $15, this will include entry into the Qualifiers. This will be payable to Audio Trade prior to the event or on the night by each entrant.
Each state must run a qualifying round to ascertain the top 16 emcees and the top 8 DJs. This can be organised prior to the event or incorporated into the event, this is at the promoters’ sole direction. All 3 judges must be present!
